Know the story behind Sabie Bakes’ most famous and unique cupcake flavors
If you’ve read our story, you will know that Sabie Bakes started in a 4 sq. meter kitchen. Like how all small businesses, we started small, really small. We’re not really a big business now but compared to 8 years before we have gone a long way. At the same time, we started with a small cake – cupcakes! We experimented with a lot of cupcake flavors but it all boiled down to our favorites and what we think other people would grow to love. Here are some of our original flavors and a snippet of how they came to be.
Apple Carrot
One of our first cupcake flavors because mama loves carrot cakes. This version also has apples in it for extra moisture. It fully packed with carrots and roasted walnuts. The best part of it is the pairing of cream cheese frosting.
Kalabana
Another original flavor of Sabie Bakes. Why go with the simple banana cake. Kalabana is Kalabasa-Banana. Proven to be a favorite. It has chocolate chips and is more of a muffin than a cupcake if you know the difference.
Lemon Blueberry
A personal favorite. It is the combination of tart and sweet. Inspired by one of my favorite chefs, Giada de Laurentiis, who loves combining lemon and blueberries. I initially called it “The Giada” as homage to her.
S’mores
Who does not love s’mores? Oh, I love them! Most of the s’mores flavors out there always have chocolate base but I wanted to get the essence and flavor of the graham cracker. I came up with a graham cracker flavor cake, then chocolate sauce and of course the toasted marshmallow frosting. Who can resist that beauty?
Caramel Pecan Brownie
Also an original flavor we created in 2013. It was inspired by Magnolia Bakery’s classic brownie. I made a recipe that was part cupcake and part brownie and the result was delish. The homemade caramel sauce paired well with the chocolate and pecans that I still dream of it every time I finish one.
Salted Caramel
Caramel lovers could not resist. The caramel flavor although intimidating to be on the sweet side is actually has a nutty profile because of the caramel. Paired with a light buttercream and caramel drizzle.
The Chocolate caramel came on later than the rest of the flavors because it was one of the flavors that took some time to perfect. Until one day, eureka! I found my perfect chocolate cake!
